PLACES TO PADDLE
Cool pine-forest paddling just southeast of Flagstaff. Rent from us in Mesa, about 2 hours and 45 minutes away.
THE LAKE
Upper Lake Mary is a long, narrow reservoir at about 6,837 feet, surrounded by ponderosa pine forest just southeast of Flagstaff, Arizona. Summers are much cooler than at the desert lakes, which makes it a great escape for kayaking and paddleboarding.
Launch at the Lake Mary Narrows for sheltered water, or from Upper Lake Mary's paved boat launches. Watch for bald eagles, osprey, great blue herons and migrating waterfowl, and camp nearby at Lakeview or Pine Grove. Rent your kayak or paddleboard at Redline in Mesa, about 2 hours and 45 minutes from the lake.
PLAN YOUR TRIP
Upper Lake Mary has no motor-size limit, so you’ll share the water with fishing boats, jet boats and water skiers. Stay visible and keep closer to shore when boat traffic or wind picks up. Lake levels change through the year and can affect launch conditions.
Lakeview Campground is closest, with 30 sites, drinking water and vault toilets, about half a mile from the water by the Wood Memorial Trail. Pine Grove Campground is farther south with 46 sites, showers and an RV dump station.
Every rental from Redline includes paddles, life jackets, foam roof blocks and tie-down straps, and we help you load up. No roof rack needed. Rent 2 days and the 3rd day is free. See rental rates or read our rental FAQs.
